Southwark Crown Court heard at the end of July last year, around half of those caught selling the drug to the people were men.
Defence lawyer Simon Coates said: “This is a very serious crime and this is not an isolated incident. It is a serious criminal offence to sell an unlicensed and un-regulated drug to a minor.”
The court heard that in January 2013 a man, who was identified as Gordon Cooper, who had a “slightly overweight” child, was found with the tablets in his arms and a £10 check placed over his head. He was jailed for three years.
He had previously pleaded not guilty.
He had been charged with one count of selling the drug, for which a fine of £6,000 was imposed.
“Mr Coates and his wife were arrested at the house of his wife and the family of his wife was arrested at the house of his wife. The family of his wife and family were also arrested at the house of his wife,” Judge Peter Cunliffe said.
The court heard that during the first five days of his sentence the police had questioned Cooper about the internet sales of Viagra.
He was arrested for selling a Viagra tablet on the internet, after he pleaded guilty to selling the drug on the internet.
After being jailed for three years, Coates said: “It’s really important that we don’t take this sentence lightly.
“I will say that it’s a very serious criminal offence and this is not an isolated incident. It is a serious offence to sell an unlicensed and un-regulated drug to a minor.”
He had previously pleaded not guilty to selling the drug to the police.
“The police officers were in the house when this was happening and when they saw me they had a camera inside. They took me to the house. We sat in the car and asked each other any questions. They then talked about the drugs.
“I told them I didn’t want to sell Viagra on the internet but when I told them I wanted to sell it on the internet I was very angry. They said: ‘Mr Cooper, you can’t talk to a minor about this.’ They said: ‘But you know, we can’t.’ I said: ‘Don’t talk to me about it, we can’t.’ I asked my wife and I had an agreement to not sell Viagra on the internet and she said: ‘Will you tell the police that I want to sell Viagra on the internet?’ I said: ‘No, you don’t, it’s not in my mind.’ She said: ‘I’m sorry, I won’t.’ I said: ‘But you know, I’m sorry, but you’ll be fine.’”
Cooper, who appeared to sell the drug to the police, denied selling Viagra on the internet and said: “I don’t want this to be a crime.
“I want people to know that I have done this and that I will do the same.”
A third woman, known as Kate, appeared in court yesterday after being jailed for three years. She was taken into custody at a Northumberland Police station, while she was arrested for selling Viagra on the internet.
Judge Cunliffe said: “These drugs are being sold on the internet and you have no way of knowing what you are buying. And you know what, you could sell it to anyone. What you are buying is counterfeit drugs.”
She added: “If someone is selling these products on the internet, then that is a crime, as it is a offence to sell these unlicensed and un-regulated drugs to a minor.”
Cooper admitted selling Viagra on the internet and admitted selling the drug on the internet without his permission.
He was jailed for three years, with his terms of imprisonment set at six months.
He will appear in the High Court today in West Yorkshire Crown Court to answer a series of questions relating to the use of Viagra on the internet and to the sale of the drug on the internet, including questions about the identity of the owner of the internet website.
